In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the child prodigy category. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family did this naturally. Maureen made her entrance into the safe haven of her parents on August 17, 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb in Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin as well as owned a part of the renowned Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and was a gruelling athlete in games when she was young. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural talent to perform. Her winning of almost all the Feis prizes for her own country's drama and theatre performances was a testament to the fact that she was a natural performer. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then pursued her dreams of operatic as well as classical theater and singing.
